Wanless Lake

Oil on Canvas
16"x20"
$240.00
Wanless Lake is in the Cabinet Mountains of Montana. I painted this from a picture Andrew took when on a backpack trip. The blue hue of the big mountain helps to make it recede into the distance. I added the back lighting to give the mountains a more interesting dimension.

This is much brighter than my usual pallette, but it was fun to use all that pure color.

Spokane Clock Tower

Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
9"x12"
$110.00

Riverfront park in Spokane, Washington is another of our favorite places to visit. This clock tower was part of the Great Northern Railroad depot built around 1900. In 1974 the world's fair was held here and the depot was torn down. Now only the clock tower remains. The clock is wound by hand once a week. I loved how this painting turned out. The red-orange of the fall trees ties together the red roof, and both of these compliment the blue sky and river. I really like painting water. All the color in the reflection gives it alot of life.

Kootenay Paint Pots

Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
5"x7"
$45.00
We visited this fascinating site on our trip to B.C. It was especially interesting to me as an artist. These mineral springs are rich in a build up of iron oxide. The natives gathered the yellow ochre to use for trading and gathered the red oxide to use for painting. Later in the 1900's it was mined to use in pigments for paints. The stream running down the hill from these paint pots looked like orange juice. Yellow ochre and raw sienna were just the right colors to capture this scene.

Lower Consolation Lake

Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
8"x10"
$80.00
Here is another scene from our British Columbia vacation last year. This is a very pretty little lake just a short hike from Moraine Lake in Banff. We spent a beautiful afternoon here enjoying the scenery and the cute, very bold little chipmunks that kept trying to steal our lunch. This is another of those blue, blue Lakes.

White Primrose

I painted this primrose back when I did the rest of my primrose series, but never posted it. I like the color scheme and impressionistic look of this one.

Takakaw Falls

Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
8"x10"
$80.00
This is another scene from Yoho. It's the highest waterfall in Brittish Columbia. This is spring break for my kids, the first part we had fun visiting with family. The last half we've all been laid up with a nasty flu. It's a good thing I did a few paintings ahead.

Emerald Lake

Oil on Gallery wrapped Canvas
8"x10"
$80.00
This is another lovely hike we did around Emerald Lake, B.C.
during our trip to Yoho last summer. I loved the colors of these lakes. Sediment from the glaciers is washed into them and the light reflecting off these particles is a myriad of blues and greens. Mountains are one of my favorite things to paint, and I was really happy with the subtle distant colors of this one.

This is Yaquina Head Lighthouse in the distance. I did another close up painting of this lighthouse, but wanted to do another of this view. I have been studying atmospheric perspective. This is how you give paintings a feeling of depth and perspective. One of the ways to do this is by lowering the saturation of colors in the background and keeping objects close in value, save the bright saturated colors, and the dark darks, and the lightest highlights for the foreground.
