Original Oil Painting of Tree

"Tree in Summer"
8"x10"
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
$80.00
This is a closer up version of the larger painting I did of the Kootenai Wildlife Refuge. I really liked this tree against the blue pond. This is the time of year I have a harder time fitting painting time in with the kids home from school, visits from family, work in the garden, and trips to the lake and the mountains. The good thing is that there are so many wonderful subjects to paint.

Oil Painting of a Summer Landscape

"Summer Landscape"
Oil on Canvas
16"x20"
$240.00
We recently visit the Kootenai Wildlife Refuge in Northern Idaho. It is a beautiful spot to hike and view wildlife. This is a view looking across the valley. It was a perfect summer day and we saw a variety of birds, turtles, and deer. I have several scenes from this trip that I'm looking forward to painting.

Original Oil Painting of Bridge over River

"Monroe St. Bridge"
Oil on Canvas Panel
8"x10"
$80.00
I like the angles and lines in this composition. I haven't painted many buildings especially in the distance as in this scene. I wanted to make them subtle and more impressionistic and yet still have them keep their characteristic look. As water is one of my favorite subjects, I was attracted to all the movement in the river. It is the Spokane River.

Original Oil Painting of Pink and White Peony

"Pink and White Peony"
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
6"x6"
$35.00
I painted this small peony before I painted yesterday's picture. It is helpful to paint small studies before doing a big painting. I like the more neutral brown background on the big painting better. The pale peonies stand out better on that one.

Original Oil Painting of Peonies in a Pitcher

"Peonies in a Pitcher"
Oil on Canvas
16"x20"
$240.00
We are finally having summer weather here. These peonies just burst into bloom today in my backyard. I was reluctant to pick so many of them, but I really wanted to paint a nice full arrangement. I expected them to be difficult to paint because they are such full intricate blooms, but, I thought they turned out well. They smell almost sweeter than a rose and perfumed the whole room. I have been studying about light, and how warm light leaves cool shadows and cool light leaves warm shadows. If you notice the peonies have a warm creamy yellow on the light side and a cool purplish blue shadow side. The cloth also has cool shadows and warm lights.

Original Oil Painting of Spokane Falls 2

"Spokane Falls 2"
9"x12"
Oil on gallery wrapped canvas
$110.00

Here is the first version of Spokane Falls that I did. This one has a different color scheme. I liked all the water in it, but the one I posted yesterday is a better composition.

Original Oil Painting of Spokane Falls

"Spokane Falls"
Oil on Canvas Panel
8"x10"
$80.00

This is the second painting that I did of this scene. I did another one from a more distant view, I liked it because it showed more of the river, but the composition wasn't as interesting as I knew it could be. I cropped the image closer and it makes for more interesting negative space. I also made the colors more blue. I'm much happier with this one, but I'll post the other tomorrow.

Original Oil Painting of Wildflowers

"Arrowleaf Balsamroot"
5"x7"
$35.00

We saw these flowers on a hike a couple weekends ago. I love the shape of their leaves. They were growing in a pretty little meadow. It is hard to make yellow stand out on a green background, they are so similar in hue, so I grayed the background quite a bit, and didn't paint in any background detail.

Daily Painting of Red Peoenies

"Red Peonies"
8"x10"
Oil on canvas panel
$80.00
I picked these in the morning when it was cool out and sketched them in to paint and then they opened up. They are huge! I had to change my drawing, now they almost look to big for the vase. Anyway, they are so vibrant. The weather turned windy and rainy and blew the rest of them off my bush, so at least I still have these to look at.

Original Oil Painting of Lilacs and Apples

"Lilacs and Apples"
Oil on Canvas
16"x20"
$240.00
These lilacs are from my yard. We did our own landscaping and have lived here long enough that our trees and plants are getting big enough to really enjoy. I loved this composition, it just seemed to paint itself. I think the lilacs blend nicely into the dark background, but it also helps the light areas to jump out. Purple, green and yellow make a good color combination.
