Original Oil Painting of Boathouses

"Boathouse Reflections"
Oil on Canvas Panel
8"x10"
Sold
This is another scene from along the Trail of the Coeur d' Alenes. I took so many pictures that day, I think that my husband thought that we weren't going to get very far on our bike trip. We did manage to ride twenty miles. I loved the reflections of these colorful boat houses on the water with the lilies in front. The sky had some big lovely clouds in it too which I originally painted in. After deliberating, I took them out and simplified the sky with just a little of the peach color to tie in with the foreground. The clouds were nice but they detracted too much from my focal area, of the boathouses. I find it hard to take things out of paintings, but am learning that it can often improve a composition.

Original Oil Painting of Water Lilies on Lake

"Water Lilies on Chatcolet Lake 2"
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
16"x20"

This is a bigger version of my earlier painting. I liked the composition so well, I wanted to paint it larger. I changed the color scheme a little and lighted up the values.

Original Oil Painting of Water Lilies and Pond

"Water Lilly Reflections"
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
8"x10"
$80.00
On one of our bike rides along the trail of the Coeur d' Alenes, we came across this little pond with water lilies. I really liked the reflections. I used to think that with experience painting would get easier, but it seems the opposite to me. When I first started painting I used to be happy when my paintings resembled a scene or object. But now the more I know, the more complicated it becomes, and the more particular I am. I'm moving more from just trying to copy what I see, to turning it into my own view and interpretation. I scraped this one twice before I got it the way I wanted it.

Original Oil Painting of Water Lilies

"Water Lilies on Chatcolet Lake"
Oil on Canvas Panel
9"x12"
$110.00
Now I can understand Monet's obsession with water lilies. With all the shadows, reflections and juxtapositions of color, they are fun to paint. We went on a camping trip not long ago to Heyburn State Park. Chatcolet Lake which is really part of Lake Coeur d' Alene, had beautiful water lillies with lovely pink blooms. We enjoyed a bike ride on the Trail of the Coeur d' Alenes, and I took a lot of lily pictures.

Oil Painting of Pears and Pitcher

"Pears and Pitcher"

Oil on Gallery wrapped Canvas

5"x7"

$35.00

Here is another pear painting. There is so much beauty in simple things, like the yellow light on these pears or the little rosy blush on some of them, the earthy color of this little pitcher and the way the green light of the cloth reflects in it's side. I like using lots of color and usually use a full spectrum palette, but lately I've been using a limited palette of a warm and cool color of each of the primary colors plus black and white. It's a good way to achieve color harmony in a painting. I'm amazed at the variety of colors are possible from just the primaries. It's good practice for my color mixing skills.
