Original Landscape Oil Painting of Mountains and Marina

"Bayview"
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
16"x20"
$240.00
This picturesque spot is on the southern part of Lake Pend Oreille, the deepest and biggest lake in Idaho. These steep mountains sides are a stunning feature of this lake and what I wanted to emphasize in this painting. I did several studies before I painted this one. I have been studying Kevin Macpherson's new book, "landscape painting-Inside and Out". He uses a very limited pallete, of sometimes just three or four colors, and says that it is far from limiting. It stretches your color mixing abilities, and makes for a more harmonious color scheme. I used just three colors, cad yellow med, cad red light, and ultramarine blue plus white.

Thanks Rene!

I have read his other book also, they are both so inspiring!

I've seen your work on Daily Painters and admired your beautiful landscapes.

I have read it a year ago and painted since then only with that palette, ... I added Viridian and burnt Umber once because I thought it would make me faster mixing darkest darks and green, but I removed them later on. It made me Laisy especially when your becoming tired.

I've just started working with the limited palette, and am really liking the result. I used burnt umber too, and it made my darks to dark. This way takes more work to mix, but it makes me pay more attention to getting the color right.
