These Wallowa Studies I did en plein aire while on a family camping vacation. I most often paint from photographs, so this is very good practice for me. I need to do it more often. The quickly changing light and shadows forces you to work quickly so these studies feel more rough than my studio work. These spectacular mountains are made of white granite. It is a rugged landscape with jagged peaks and lush meadows.

I was privileged to be able to visit this spectacular spot in the Olympic National Park while staying with family. We had a lovely hike and picnic that left me wishing to be able to visit more often to explore the area in different seasons and times of day. The mountains are truly breath taking.
