Surrealist Painting of A Starry Night by Cheryl Ratcliff

"My Starry Night"
Oil on Canvas panel
9"x12"
This was an experiment much more surrealist than my usual style. It is completely from memory with no visual reference. It doesn't nearly live up to the real thing. It is one of my happiest memories--the place I go to find peace. One night on a camping trip at Priest Lake with my family, we stayed up late playing games, giddy and silly. Then the night became so still and my Dad, sisters, kids and I walked down to the lake where there were stars like you've never seen before all reflected in the water. We lay on the beach in awe, feeling so small, yet so connected.

This was my first time out Plein Air Painting with the Coeur d' Alene art Association. It was a lot of fun, and I was happy that my first attempt went okay. I enjoyed the nice company and great advice.

Landscape Original Oil of Hillside With Wildflowers, Poppies and Bachelor Buttons by Cheryl Ratcliff

"Enlightened Moment"
Oil on canvas panel
9"x12"
$120.00

Excerpt from The Dry Salvages by T.S. Eliot
For most of us, there is only the unattended
Moment, the moment in and out of time,
The distraction fit, lost in a shaft of sunlight,
The wild thyme unseen, or the winter lightining
Or the waterfall, or the music heard so deeply
That it is not heard at all, but you are the music
While the music lasts.
